Signs and Symptoms of Deficiency:
- No evidence of cobalt deficiency in humans
Causes of Deficiency:
- No evidence of cobalt deficiency in humans
Adverse Reactions and Toxicity:
- In animals: polycythemia, hyperplasia of bone marrow,
reticulocytosis, increased blood volume
- May cause heart problems, goiters or proliferation of bone
marrow erythropoietic cells
Drug/Nutrient Interaction:
- Interacts with iodine to promote normal thyroid function
Biochemical Functions:
- Essential for normal cell function when combined with
cyanocobalamin
- May cause lowering of blood pressure by vasodilation
